How long does a full home renovation take in Brisbane?
There’s no standard answer. A full renovation can include kitchens, bathrooms, layout changes, flooring and exterior work, and each adds time. Engineering and approvals can also add time before building starts. We give you a realistic timeframe once we’ve inspected the home and agreed the scope.
Finalising your selections early helps a lot. It means materials can be ordered ahead and trades booked in the right order, so the build isn’t waiting on decisions.
Can we live in the house during a full renovation?
Sometimes. It depends on how much of the house is being worked on at once. If the kitchen and your only bathroom are both out, most families move out for part of the build. Where we can, we stage the work so you can stay. We’ll talk it through at the inspection.
Staging might mean renovating one end of the house first, or keeping one bathroom working until the new one is finished. It can make the build longer overall, so we weigh up the trade-offs with you.
What approvals do I need for a full home renovation?
It depends on the work. Removing load-bearing walls, new openings and other structural work need engineering and building approval. Homes in Brisbane’s character overlay may also need council approval for external changes. We confirm what’s needed during design, so there are no surprises once building starts.
Older homes can hold other surprises too. Queensland homes built before 1990 may contain asbestos. It needs to be tested and, if found, removed safely by a licensed removalist before the work disturbs it.
Should I renovate everything at once or in stages?
Doing it all at once usually means one approval process, one setup and less disruption overall. Staging spreads the cost but means living through more than one build. The right choice depends on your budget, your timing and how long you plan to stay in the home.
Even if you stage it, plan the whole house up front. That way the first stage doesn’t get in the way of the next.
Frequently asked questions
Do you handle design and approvals?
Yes. We organise plans, engineering and approvals. Our preliminary design and selections stage sets the scope, and the prelim fee is deducted from the contract if you go ahead.
Can you add an extension as part of a full renovation?
Yes. We often combine the two and plan them together, so the new and existing parts work as one home.
Who manages the build?
A project supervisor and site supervisor run the job, our own carpenters and trades do the work, and you can always speak directly with the owners.
What warranty do I get?
All our work carries a 6.5 year structural warranty. We’re QBCC licensed (15346511), fully insured and members of Master Builders Queensland.
