Extensions typically take 6 to 12 months on site. Here are the six steps we follow, from the first site visit and engineering through to the final walkthrough.

An extension is one of the best ways to add space and value to your home without moving. It’s also a bigger project than a renovation, so it pays to understand the steps before you start.

The six steps

  1. Free onsite inspection. We look at your home, discuss your goals and budget, and give advice on layout options, approvals and feasibility.
  2. Design & engineering. Plans and engineering are needed before final pricing. You can use your own designer or have ADG manage it for you.
  3. Prelim stage. Detailed scoping, site investigation, selections and build planning. The prelim fee comes off your contract price if you proceed with ADG.
  4. Final quote & contract. A formal quote with clear inclusions, timelines and expectations.
  5. Construction. Typically 6 months for smaller extensions and up to 12 months for larger structural work, with weekly progress updates.
  6. Handover. A full walkthrough together, with any minor items fixed quickly before final sign-off.

What does it cost?

Complete home renovations and extensions generally range from $60,000 to $300,000, depending on size, structure and finishes. A free onsite inspection is the quickest way to find out where your project fits.
