ADG bathroom renovations in Brisbane start from $30,000. See what’s included, what pushes the price up, and how to get an accurate number for your home.

If you’re planning a new bathroom, the first question is usually the hardest one to get a straight answer to: how much will it cost? At ADG Construction, bathroom renovations in Brisbane start from $30,000. This guide explains what that price includes, what changes it, and how to get a number you can rely on for your own home.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Brisbane?

ADG bathroom renovations in Brisbane start from $30,000. That covers a complete renovation, not a cosmetic refresh: design, strip-out, waterproofing, plumbing, electrical, tiling and fit-off by licensed trades. Your final price depends on the size of the room, the layout, the tiling and the fixtures you choose.

You may see lower figures quoted elsewhere. Often those quotes cover only part of the job. Some leave out waterproofing, electrical work or removal of the old bathroom. Others assume the floor and walls behind the tiles are sound, which isn’t always the case in Brisbane homes.

We would rather give you a realistic starting point up front. That way there are no surprises once the old tiles come off.

Why do our bathrooms start from $30,000?

Our starting price reflects a full renovation done properly, from the first visit to handover. You get a design stage before any work starts, our own team of trades on site, a supervisor running the job, and work backed by our QBCC licence, insurance and 6.5 year structural warranty.

Here is what that price includes:

  • A free onsite inspection and honest estimate. We measure up, look at what’s behind the existing bathroom where we can, and talk through your ideas and budget.
  • A preliminary design stage. You get a layout concept, help choosing tiles, tapware and colours at the showroom, and a take-home design pack. The preliminary fee is fully deducted from your contract price if you go ahead with us.
  • A complete build by our own team of trades. Full strip-out, waterproofing, plumbing, electrical, tiling and fit-off. We don’t hand your bathroom from one subcontractor to the next.
  • A site supervisor. One person keeps your project on track and keeps you updated on trade scheduling. Most single bathrooms are finished in 4 weeks once selections are locked in.
  • Licensed, insured and guaranteed work. We are QBCC licensed (licence 15346511), fully insured, members of Master Builders Queensland, and we back our work with a 6.5 year structural warranty.
  • Direct contact with the owners. You deal with the people who run the business, not a sales team.

What drives the cost of a bathroom renovation?

The biggest cost drivers are layout changes, the size of the room, the amount and type of tiling, the fixtures you choose, and the condition of what’s hidden behind the walls and under the floor. Keeping the existing layout and choosing standard fittings keeps costs closer to our starting price.

The table below shows how each factor tends to affect the price.

Factor Keeps cost down Pushes cost up
Layout Shower, toilet and vanity stay where they are Moving the toilet, shower or vanity to a new position
Room size A standard-sized bathroom or ensuite A large bathroom, or making the room bigger
Tiling Standard-format tiles to a sensible height Floor-to-ceiling tiling, large-format or feature tiles, complex patterns
Fixtures and tapware Quality standard ranges from our suppliers Freestanding baths, custom vanities, premium tapware
Structure Walls, windows and floor framing stay as they are Removing walls, changing windows, replacing floor framing
Condition of the existing room Sound floor, framing and pipework Rotten framing, old pipework or water damage found during strip-out
Access Easy access for trades and materials Upstairs bathrooms with tight access, or homes on steep blocks
Decisions All selections locked in before work starts Changes to layout or selections once the build is under way

A note on multiple bathrooms: renovating two bathrooms at once costs more in total, but it is usually more efficient than doing them separately. Trades are already on site and work can be scheduled together.

Does moving plumbing change the price?

Yes. Keeping the toilet, shower and vanity where they are is one of the simplest ways to control cost. Moving them means relocating drainage and water lines, and sometimes cutting into floors or slabs. It can be worth doing, but it is worth knowing the trade-off before you commit.

In Queensland, plumbing and drainage work must be done by a licensed plumber. Electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. Our licensed trades handle this as part of the build, so you don’t have to organise them yourself.

What Brisbane-specific issues can affect the cost?

Brisbane has many older homes, including Queenslanders and post-war houses. These can hide problems that only show up once the old bathroom is stripped out, such as rotten floor framing, old pipework or past water damage. We check what we can at the inspection and explain any risks before you sign.

A few things we look out for in older Brisbane homes:

  • Floor framing. In timber-floored homes, years of leaking showers can rot the joists and bearers under a bathroom. If this is found, it needs to be repaired before the new floor goes down.
  • Old pipework. Older galvanised or patched pipes may need replacing so they don’t fail behind your new tiles.
  • Asbestos. Homes built before 1990 may contain asbestos in wall and floor sheeting. If suspected, it must be checked and removed safely before work continues.
  • Humidity and ventilation. Brisbane’s climate is humid. Good exhaust ventilation helps protect your new bathroom from mould and moisture.

Not every home has these issues. But it is better to plan for them than to be caught out mid-build.

Why does waterproofing matter so much?

Waterproofing is the part of your bathroom you never see, and the part that matters most. In Australia, waterproofing of wet areas in homes is done to the Australian Standard AS 3740. Done properly, it protects your floor, walls and framing from water damage for years to come.

Poor waterproofing is one of the main reasons bathrooms fail early. Leaks often go unnoticed until tiles lift, grout cracks or the framing underneath starts to rot. Fixing it then means pulling the bathroom apart again.

That’s why waterproofing is always part of our price. It is never an optional extra.

Where is it worth spending, and where can you save?

Spend on the things you can’t easily change later: waterproofing, plumbing, layout and the quality of the build. Save on items that are simple to swap out down the track, such as mirrors, accessories and some light fittings. This keeps the bones of your bathroom strong without stretching the budget.

Some practical ways to keep costs in check:

  • Keep the existing layout if it works for you.
  • Use a feature tile on one wall rather than throughout.
  • Choose a quality standard vanity rather than full custom joinery.
  • Make all your selections before work starts, so the build runs without delays.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most single bathrooms are finished in 4 weeks once your selections are locked in. Larger bathrooms, structural changes, custom finishes and multiple bathrooms take longer. We confirm your timeframe before work starts, and your site supervisor keeps you updated on trade scheduling throughout.

The planning before the build matters just as much. A renovation goes smoothly when everything is decided before the first tile comes off the wall. That’s why our preliminary design stage comes first.

How do you get an accurate price for your bathroom?

The only way to get an accurate price is to have a builder look at your bathroom in person. Online calculators and price lists can’t see your floor framing, your pipework or your access. A free onsite inspection gives you a realistic estimate based on your actual home.

Here’s how it works with us:

  • Free onsite inspection and estimate. We visit, measure up, and talk through your ideas, layout options and budget. You get honest guidance on what’s achievable.
  • Preliminary design stage. If you’re happy with the estimate, we prepare a layout concept, take you through showroom selections and give you a take-home design pack. The preliminary fee is deducted from your contract price if you go ahead.
  • Construction. Once selections are final, we lock in a start date. Our own trades do the work, and your site supervisor keeps you informed.
  • Handover. We walk through the finished bathroom with you, check every finish and fixture, and complete any final touch-ups.

To book your free onsite inspection, call us on 0481 828 032 or get in touch online. We work across Brisbane, within 30 km of the CBD.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small bathroom or ensuite cost to renovate?

Our bathroom renovations start from $30,000, including ensuites. A smaller room can sit closer to that starting price, but layout changes, tiling and fixtures still affect the total. We’ll give you a realistic estimate at the free onsite inspection.

Is waterproofing included in the price?

Yes. Waterproofing is part of every bathroom we build. It is done to AS 3740, the Australian Standard for waterproofing wet areas in homes.

Can I stay at home during the renovation?

Most people can, especially if there is a second bathroom or toilet in the house. We’ll talk through access and noise at the inspection so you can plan ahead.

What happens if you find rot or damage behind the tiles?

We’ll show you what we’ve found and explain what needs to be done before we continue. Older Brisbane homes can hide rotten framing or old pipework, which is why we check what we can at the inspection and talk through the risks early.

Do I need to pay for the design stage if I don’t go ahead?

The preliminary fee covers the design work, showroom selections and your take-home design pack. If you go ahead with us, the full fee is deducted from your contract price.

Do you renovate bathrooms outside Brisbane?

We work within 30 km of the Brisbane CBD. If you’re unsure whether your suburb is covered, call us on 0481 828 032 and we’ll let you know.
